THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO
Chicago, Illinois, USA, 2000
Lord Cultural Resources was commissioned to develop a Facilities Strategy for the expansion of the Art Institute of Chicago into its Northeast Quadrant. We reviewed and amended the Institute's space program, provided a zoning analysis, recommended adjacencies and circulation patterns, and projected the space requirements on both two-dimensional and three-dimensional plans of the five-storey addition of approximately 300,000 gross sq.ft. The Art Institute's architect, Renzo Piano Building Workshop, has worked from our Facilities Strategy for the expansion plans and we were subsequently commissioned to develop a detailed Functional Program for the project. The expansion opened in May 2009.
