CONSTITUTION HILL
Johannesburg, South Africa, 2003–05

Constitution Hill is the former prison site compound, which held criminals and political prisoners alike, including the Nobel Peace Prize winners Mahatma Gandhi and former South African President Nelson Mandela, where the Constitutional Court of the Republic of South Africa has built its new home. Lord Cultural Resources was contracted to work with the Johannesburg Development Authority to plan and infuse new meaning into the heritage components of the former prison. Lord Cultural Resources' contribution included concept development, interpretive planning, and operations and business planning. In addition, we project managed the implementation of the planning, hired and trained all staff, and rolled out all recommended operations, public programming and communications for the first year of operation.
