MANCHESTER ART GALLERY
Manchester, United Kingdom, 1996, 1998
The Manchester Art Gallery initially commissioned Lord Cultural Resources to undertake a collection analysis as part of its application to the Heritage Lottery Fund. On the strength of this work, and the success of the application, the Gallery further commissioned Lord Cultural Resources to prepare a detailed Functional Brief for the Gallery's expansion and to work closely with the office of architect Sir Michael Hopkins, who was selected to design the building. The new Manchester Art Gallery opened in May 2002 on the basis of the Functional Brief, and has been acclaimed as an effective and exciting transformation of the historic building.
