MODERNA MUSEET AND ARKITEKTURMUSEET
Stockholm, Sweden, 2002
The Moderna Museet is a major international institution that shares its Skeppsholmen site with the Arktitekturmuseet. This new building opened to acclaim in 1998, but staff at both museums discovered problems with the organization of the shared lobby space in terms of way finding, the orientation and circulation of visitors around the building, and the capacity of some facilities to accommodate large numbers of visitors. When the building had to be closed in 2001, the Moderna Museet, Arkitekturmuseet and National Property Board invited Lord Cultural Resources to undertake a review of the main lobby and visitor facilities and to make recommendations for improvements to the visitor experience, in a three-day working session in Stockholm. Our team helped target and solve specific problems, resulting in the establishment of a welcoming and vibrant lobby space for the museums' re-opening in 2004.
