WEST VIRGINIA ARCHAEOLOGICAL REPOSITORY
Grave Creek Mound, Moundsville, West Virginia, USA, 2003–04
Grave Creek Mound is the largest conical prehistoric burial mound in North America. Created by the people of the Adena culture approximately 2,200 years ago, it is one of the outstanding archaeological sites of the state of West Virginia. The Division of Culture and History of the West Virginia government selected the museum at Grave Creek Mound as the location for its state-wide archaeological repository. The Division selected a team led by West Virginia architects Grove & Dall'Olio to plan and design the repository. Lord Cultural Resources completed the Collections Analysis, Facilities Plan which included a public viewing window into the conservation laboratory, and the Functional Program. Design was completed late in 2004, and construction began in 2005.
