NATIONAL INFANTRY MUSEUM
Columbus, Georgia, USA, 2001–02
Since 1959, in a renovated building in Fort Benning, south of Columbus, Georgia, the National Infantry Museum has honored, preserved and interpreted to the public the heritage of those who have served in the Infantry. Together with the City of Columbus, the National Infantry Association and Foundation have embarked on a plan to build a new Museum just outside the gates of Fort Benning that will more effectively preserve the collection, as well as tell the story of the Infantry in a far more engaging way. Lord Cultural Resources was commissioned to develop a Master Plan for the relocation of this Army Museum System Institution, including consultation with the Center of Military History, which owns the collection. The new National Infantry Museum opened in June 2009.
