SMITHSONIAN – NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE
Washington, DC, 2007–ongoing
Established by an Act of Congress in 2003, the National Museum of African American History and Culture will be the only national museum exclusively devoted to the documentation of African American life, art, history and culture. Lord Cultural Resources – with lead Phil Freelon Associates Architects and Max Bond of David Brody Bond Aedas – was awarded the contract to plan this new Smithsonian museum on a 3-acre site on the Mall in Washington near the Washington Monument. Our firm lead the national public engagement process, the establishment of general museum and facility requirements, the development of a functional strategy, collections analysis, preparation for collections storage and operations planning.
