Bank of Canada Museum

2002

The Bank of Canada Museum (formerly Currency Museum) located in the heart of Canada’s Capital City, Ottawa, interprets the work of the Bank of Canada, Canada’s monetary heritage and provides access to the National Currency Collection. The collection is made up of approximately 100,000 coins, tokens, bank notes, ethnographic and other artefacts relating to money and banking.

In 2002, Lord Cultural Resources was contracted to assess whether the Museum should enhance its merchandising capability through an expanded boutique operation. Merchandising and product development opportunities were explored as were short and long term options for expansion. An analysis of the museum’s specific context and trends was conducted and projections made with respect to attendance, revenue and expenses for retail in the short term and a stand-alone boutique five to ten years away.

The Museum recently underwent a major renovation and opened the doors to its new facility after four years of planning on Canada Day, 2017.
