Ontario House 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games

2009-10

Lord Cultural Resources, along with a team of leading Canadian firms led by general contractor EllisDon, was selected by Ontario’s Ministry of Tourism to design, build and manage Ontario’s Pavilion at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Lord Cultural Resources led the Creative and Program Development for Ontario’s Olympic brand message “There’s No Place Like This…” along with the core team of Hariri Pontarini Architects, Infinite Stage Design, responsible for food, events and the day-to-day operations and Nussli, exhibition fabricators. As the Creative Directors, the Lord team designed the interior including a slick bar and lounge area featuring original art by Katherine Harvey as part of a public art initiative, and programmed the cooking demonstrations, performances, musical guests, and a diverse menu featured talent, technology, food and drink from across Ontario.

Ontario House was open from February 12 to March 1, 2010. Since then the project has won three design awards: Gold for the Interior Design Temporary/Portable Category by the Design Exchange in November 2010, 2011 Design Excellence by Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and the 2011 Azure People’s Choice Award for "Architecture – Temporary and Demonstration" by Azure Magazine.
