Jimmy Doolittle Center

2014

The Jimmy Doolittle Air and Space Museum Educational Foundation is the non-profit arm of the Jimmy Doolittle Center (JDC), which is a mixed use development to include a museum-related aviation attraction, a hotel and conference center, and a campus of Solano Community College, in particular a space for an aeronautics aviation program offered by Solano College. The Foundation was established to “promote our aviation history and encourage patriotic endeavors.” To achieve this mission the Foundation “envisions a new Center for patriotism that educates and inspires all Americans.”

The Foundation engaged Lord Cultural Resources in 2014 to develop a strategic master plan for the museum component of the overall development project. We developed a museum concept that encompasses not only the history of aeronautics but also the science and engineering that drive the industry. The concept also reflects a national perspective and uses the story of Jimmy Doolittle and the personal characteristics he exemplified – pioneering spirit, creativity and innovation, sacrifice and courage and leadership – as the core thread, supported by the connecting theme of patriotism that runs through the entire experience.
