Magna Carta Travelling Exhibition

2011-15

As a part of the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta in 1215, Durham Cathedral in England has agreed to make available a copy of the 1300 version of Magna Carta and the Charter of the Forest for exhibition in Canada. This will be the first time Magna Carta is exhibited extensively in Canada. Visitors will learn how the Charter has had a lasting impact on political theory, law and government, the legacy of which Canadians and many people of the world are heir. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Canadians to see this iconic world treasure and recognize the impact this seminal document has had on the rights and freedoms we enjoy, and sometimes take for granted.

Lord Cultural Resources worked with Magna Carta Canada and Durham Cathedral to bring these two important historical documents to Canada as part of a travelling exhibition in 2015. This involved identifying and coordinating with host venues and potential sponsors across the country. The Lord team came up with an initial Interpretive Plan and Concept Design and continued with the design and build of the exhibition. Lord was also the Tour Manager for the exhibition, managing all aspects of the tour.

The exhibition boasted great success with a total of 69,733 visitors across four major cities in Canada.
