Pointe du Bois Generating Station

2007-08

Manitoba Hydro’s Pointe du Bois hydroelectric station is the oldest continuously-operating generating facility and the first publicly-owned hydro development in the Province of Manitoba. Opened in 1911, the station’s working life is coming to a close and Manitoba Hydro is considering options for the redevelopment of the site.

As part of the options appraisal, Lord Cultural Resources in partnership with KGS Engineering and Scatliff + Murray + Miller Architects of Winnipeg was contracted to conduct a Heritage Assessment of the plant focusing on the 1911 powerhouse. Lord Cultural Resources visited the site and assessed it in terms of its historical, engineering and architectural significance. Manitoba Hydro has accepted the results of the assessment and is using our report in its ongoing planning.
