University of Alabama Museums

2016

The University of Alabama has a rich museum and heritage landscape. Home to several important museums, archaeological sites and collections, the University is the steward of a large part of the heritage of the State of Alabama. The museums department includes Moundville Archaeological Park, the Alabama Museum of Natural History, Gorgas House Museum, Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum, the Office of Archaeological Research, and the Department of Research and Collections and is also responsible for the Discovering Alabama public television series.

At this time the University has commissioned Lord Cultural Resources to develop a Strategic Plan to help focus the University museum system’s direction and goals for the next five and ten years – to develop a path for the system and guides the growth and development of its museums in service of their mission(s), and in concert with the University’s larger goals.
