Weeksville Heritage Center

2019-20

Weeksville Heritage Center is an historic house museum and cultural center in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Through preservation, education, arts and civic engagement, the Center examines explores the history of Weeksville, a 19th and early 20th century free Black community, and the relevance of other communities like it, to contemporary audiences.

Weeksville engaged Lord Cultural Resources to facilitate a transformational Strategic & Business Planning process. Our team identifying critical issues and key strategic opportunities; assessed facility needs in terms of usage and future expansion opportunities; and created a business plan with realistic operating, revenue and expense projections.

A pivotal point of the process was a Charrette with leaders from the cultural, political and Brooklyn communities. Participants assisted Weeksville leadership in prioritizing its actions for the next three years. The final plan outlines the Center’s goals and establishes strategies by which it will achieve them; ensures that the museum acquires, develops and allocates its human, financial, and physical resources in a way that advances its mission and sustains its financial viability; and establishes measures by which the museum will assess its achievements.
