Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum/National Auto And Truck Museum

2019

Founded in 1969 and 1988, respectively, the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum and the National Auto and Truck Museum are located in separate buildings on the premises of the former Auburn Automobile Company, a going concern from 1926 through to its demise in 1937. These two nonprofit organizations operate completely independently and differ widely in scope and scale: one holds accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums and employs some 18 permanent and part-time staff, while the other is a primarily volunteer-driven organization with just 2 paid positions.

With the arrival of new leadership at both museums in 2018, the time was right to explore the range of collaborative possibilities in the service of better visitor experience, greater community impact and improved attendance and earned revenues as well as operational efficiencies. With these goals in mind, in 2019 the museums contracted Lord Cultural Resources to work with the Board and staffs of each museum to develop a Shared Campus Strategic Vision and Direction Plan and forge a way forward for mutual benefit.
