Project Experience

Art Gallery of Nova Scotia & NSCAD University Co-Location Study

2007-08, 2011, 2016

The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (AGNS) and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) University have both long endured inadequate, inefficient and expensive to operate buildings. Both have also long sought new sites and facilities. While there has been a history of cooperation, a co-location was proposed to enable greater levels of collaboration and partnership between the two institutions as well as potential capital and operating cost savings.  Lord Cultural Resources was engaged to prepare a facility and business plan for the co-location assuming that the separate missions and governance structures of AGNS as a provincial art gallery and NSCAD as a degree granting educational institution will continue.

In commenting on the work of Lord Cultural Resources, we received the following comments as part of testimonial letters:

“Your leadership and facilitation of the stakeholder meetings was outstanding and you all assisted us in realizing our vision and goals are feasible and achievable. Throughout the six-month project the team lived and demonstrated the values of Lord Cultural Resources: respect for collaboration, local adaptation and cultural diversity embodying the highest standard of integrity, ethics and professional practice.”

 – Dianne Taylor-Gearing, President, NSCAD University

“I also want to recognize your flexibility. I realize there were a lot of players who were very invested in the outcome of the project but you kept an open mind and accommodated everyone’s interests. It took a great deal of patience and persistence to balance the opinions of so many people, but the report reflects those accommodations and is stronger for it. Thanks again for your excellent work.”

 – Nancy Noble, Director and CEO, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia
