Stadtmuseum Schlössli

The City of Aarau, Switzerland, commissioned Lord Cultural Resources to develop a master plan for the Stadtmuseum Schlössli including a new museum concept for this local history museum. The study included an analysis of current programmes and activities and a market analysis.

The Schlössli dates from the 13^th century and is one of Aarau’s oldest buildings. The historic building not only reflects the local and regional municipal history but also on a national scale, for a short time Aarau served as the capital of Helvetia. Our work involved a close analysis of all aspects of the museum and its collections for which a new plan was presented. An important part of Lord Cultural Resources’ solution included a plan to create a dual function for the museum as an active community forum as well as a platform for the presentation of the city’s history. This concept has been developed in close cooperation with the museum commission and the city council.
