Project Experience

B&O Railway Museum

2017

In 2017 Lord Cultural Resources in association with Forrec Ltd. was contracted to complete a Site Master Plan for the B&O Railway Museum. Housed in an 1830 roundhouse and several other buildings from the B&O Railway’s Baltimore maintenance shops, the Museum holds one of the world’s great collections of rolling stock including several one-of-a-kind rarities.

Lord and Forrec’s role was to re-imagine the site as a more integrated visitor experience with updated visitor experience elements and amenities. We developed a new interpretive framework for the Museum that situated the story of the B&O within the larger story of the development of 19th century America, including the railroad’s contribution to westward expansion, technological progress and economic development. Our plan was adopted by the Board and fundraising efforts are underway.
