Project Experience

City of Munich

2005

European City Museums are experiencing a remarkable renaissance. At increasing pace they are undergoing a fundamental change, reflecting new ways of urban life and diversity. For the Department of Culture of the Bavarian capital, Lord Cultural Resources analyzed Munich’s City Museum and its context within the entire municipal museum situation. The City of Munich operates a number of well-known museums such as Lenbachhaus, Villa Stuck, a Jewish Museum, a planned NS Documentation Centre alongside a number of smaller galleries and art initiatives. Munich is also home to the large state collections of Bavaria including the famous Pinakotheken and the Deutsches Museum. The focus of Lord Cultural Resources’ work was to develop recommendations for the city museum and further develop strategies for cooperation between all city-run institutions to realize synergies and potentials of an urban museum network and improve the quality of visitor services.
