Project Experience
Hinchliffe Stadium
Hinchliffe Stadium is one of the last remaining Negro League ballparks in North America with a rich history. It served as the home of the New York Black Yankees, the New York Cubans and Major League Baseball Hall-of-Famer’s such as Larry Doby. It became an important venue for sporting events such as exhibitions, regular season, and champion baseball, football, boxing, track and field events and automotive and motorcycle racing. Unfortunately, the Stadium has been vacant and deteriorating for more than two decades now. RPM Development and Baye Adolfo-Wilson have reached an agreement with the city to rejuvenate and reconstruct this important stadium to once again host sporting events, concerts, and conventions. A mixed-use development will be built alongside the Stadium, to include a 314-space parking garage, a restaurant with museum exhibits about Hinchliffe’s role in the Negro baseball leagues, and a 75-unit senior citizen housing complex with a childcare facility on its first floor.
Lord Cultural Resources has been engaged to develop an Interpretive, Facilities and Business Strategy for the Hinchliffe Stadium – Negro League exhibit space. Our goal is to create an interpretive approach for the Negro Leagues story to captivate hometown visitors as well as those from afar. Our Interpretive Strategy identifies core messages, establishes the thematic framework, and begins to identify potential means of expression for the exhibition space. It will form the foundation for content and the character of exhibition design.
