Hyatt Regency Trinidad, Regency Ballroom V
Alexandra will join Desley Gardner and Dr. Christopher Waters, Members of the Board of the Historical and Archaeological Society (HAS)/Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, and Stephanie D. The session will focus on how the process supports HAS’s aim to redefine the Museum’s role as a space for dialogue, education, cultural continuity, and civic pride within the nation’s broader cultural ecosystem.
Curating Anti-Colonial Stories: Trauma Histories, Race & Decolonial Practices in Caribbean Museums
Wednesday, November 11 | 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
Hyatt Regency Trinidad, Regency Ballrooms III & IV
Alexandra will co-facilitate this interactive workshop in partnership with the Museums Association of the Caribbean. Drawing on case studies presented by Kevin Farmer (Barbados Museum & Historical Society), Luciana M. de Carvalho (ICOM Brasil), and Marianne Ramirez Aponte (Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico), the workshop will explore how Caribbean museums are using anti-colonial curatorial approaches to interpret difficult and traumatic histories with care.
Through participatory working sessions, invited participants will consider how museums can balance historical trauma with agency, resistance, and cultural dynamism, address silences in collections and archives, and engage audiences through an ethics of care. These discussions will inform the initiatives of MAC's Curatorial Working Group.
