Canadian Museums Association National Conference

Niagara Falls

We’re looking forward to connecting with you at the upcoming conference, and don't miss “Reconciliation through Partnership and Collaboration” on April 10th at 1:30, featuring panelists Lisa Wright (Lord Principal Consultant), Tim Johnson (Lord Indigenous Advisor and Misko-Aki Project Leader) and Rick Hill (Misko-Aki Indigenous Curator) speaking about the exhibition Misko-Aki (Red Earth): A Confluence of Cultures.

Inspired by Truth and Reconciliation Report's Calls to Action, the Muskoka Discovery Centre made a strong commitment to engage meaningfully with the Indigenous Nations and communities on whose traditional lands they live and work. The process for creating a 3,000 square foot permanent exhibition Misko-Aki (Red Earth): A Confluence of Cultures was Indigenous-led and community-responsive. The Centre turned over complete creative control of the exhibition to the Indigenous-led team and its Indigenous Community Advisors, to tell their stories and share their art, however they chose. This panel discussion will provide practical insights and examples of how this project can be a model for collaboration between community museums and their Indigenous neighbours.
