Beaverbrook Art Gallery

2018-19

Since 1959, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery has worked to foster and promote the study, enjoyment and appreciation of art and has come to be known as New Brunswick’s provincial art gallery. During this time, the Gallery has grown and evolved, successfully navigating through many challenges, including a major dispute regarding the legal ownership of the foundational collection. With the resolution of that issue, the Gallery began to refocus, moving forward with an expansion, refreshing its leadership, programs, and staff, as well as developing a revitalized vision for its future.

With the celebration of its 60th anniversary in 2019, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery engaged Lord Cultural Resources to develop a strategic and business plan. That plan included the 9,000 sq. ft. Harrison McCain Pavilion addition to provide improved orientation, visitor amenities, and additional art storage facilities, as well as host the new Marion McCain Institute for Atlantic Art. The new Pavilion opened in September 2022 and was described by Thomas Smart, the Beaverbrook’s Director and CEO, as the “community’s living room.”

In a testimonial letter regarding the planning work of Lord Cultural Resources during the COVID pandemic, Mr. Smart wrote:

“The agility of Lord Cultural Resources enabled us to recalibrate the planning process to absorb the momentous and positive changes seamlessly into a strategic direction with attendant measurable objectives. I am pleased to say that our work together has been enormously beneficial to the extent that construction is poised to begin in the coming weeks.”
