Center for Black Excellence and Culture

Madison, Wisconsin is the home of the State capitol and the University of Wisconsin’s main campus and is regularly cited as one of most desirable cities in the entire United States. But, while many residents enjoy a high quality of life, much of the Black minority population has struggled with poverty, systemic inequality and a void in cultural space provision.

The Center for Black Excellence and Culture, an exciting new cultural institution to be built in Madison, Wisconsin, is intended to rectify that deficiency. Founded by Madison pastor and community leader Dr. Alex Gee, the Center is projected to open in 2023 on a six-acre site at 633-635 West Badger Road adjacent to the Fountain of Life Covenant Church. The Center will enhance Black pride regarding Black achievement, innovation and excellence, promote Black health and wellness and facilitate the sharing of the Black experience through conversation and culture.

Lord Cultural Resources in association with Jim Bower Associates was commissioned to complete the Business Plan for the new Center. Based on extensive consultations including hundreds of conversations about what is most needed to support a vibrant and thriving Black community, our recommendations focused on community priorities and was received enthusiastically by Dr. Gee and his Board of Directors.
