Charlestown Navy Yard

2016-17

The Charlestown Navy Yard was a working U.S. Navy shipyard from 1801 through to its closure in 1974. However it remains the home of the iconic U.S.S. Constitution, commissioned in 1797 and still an active Navy vessel, although open to the public as a museum ship. The Navy Yard also includes the U.S.S. Constitution Museum, operated by a private foundation, and other attractions on a site overseen by the National Parks Service.

Lord Cultural Resources in association with Sasaki Architects have been engaged to develop a site master plan that will consider site design as well as operational issues and the overall visitor experience. The goal is to establish a broad base of attractions at the Navy Yard to complement the Constitution and its Museum, and turn it into a destination in downtown Boston.
