Houston Museum of African American Culture

2016-17

The Houston Museum of African American Culture (HMAAC) was established in 2000.  Located in the Museum District of Houston, HMAAC opened to the public in 2012 and now welcomes over 30,000 visitors annually.  HMAAC is a contemporary museum of the people and cultures of the African Diaspora.

The mission of HMAAC is to collect, conserve, explore, interpret, and exhibit the material and intellectual culture of Africans and the African Diaspora for current and future generations.

HMAAC has accomplished much during its first few years of operation, including building a presence in the community, developing diverse programming, and establishing a foundation upon which to grow.  In 2016, with a leadership transition on the horizon and expiry of the previous strategic plan, HMAAC engaged Lord Cultural Resources to develop a strategic planning process to envision the next five years.
