Louis Armstrong House Museum

2003, 2016

The Louis Armstrong House, a National Historic Landmark and New York City Landmark, is dedicated to documenting the story of Louis Armstrong’s life and career and preserve his legacy, which is felt as strongly in his Corona, Queens, neighborhood as it is among his fans around the world. The historic house completes and compliments the Archives, which are accessible to researchers and general visitors at the Rosenthal Library at Queens College.

In 2003, Lord Cultural Resources, with the architectural firm Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates, was selected to prepare a Discovery Report and Concept Plan for the proposed Visitor Center. The comprehensive plan presented a description of the visitor experience, programs and operations of the Center, staffing needs, and space requirements, as well as a preliminary statement of capital costs and implementation.

The Louis Armstrong House Museum opened to the public in 2009 across the street from the historic house. Lord was reengaged in 2016 to conduct a review of the business plan in preparation for the opening of the expansion.
