Project Experience

Musée de Radio France

2007

The Museum of Radio France owns one of the most exceptional collections of items relating to telecommunications in Europe. In 2002, a huge renovation project at the Radio France headquarters was launched to improve security. As a consequence the project of the Museum of Radio France in its original form would cease to exist.

Lordculture, the European company of Lord Cultural Resources, was commissioned by Patrice Cavelier, the Secretary General of Radio France, to consider the viability of creating a new space dedicated to the display of Radio France’s collections. The collection was to be housed within its newly renovated headquarters. Since Radio France had no previous expertise in the museum field, both a feasibility and strategic study were prerequisites. Our team considered the proposed strategy from Radio France as well as the special requirements of any exhibition space in order to find a suitable interaction between both, and furthermore within a competitive, functional and heritage framework. Based on the findings from around ten comparable case-studies, Lordculture was able to organise workshops with the museum team in order to formulate a very precise analysis of how the museum should best function. Lordculture then formulated three possible scenarios for a future exhibition space.
