Project Experience

National Museum of Andorra

2007

Andorra is a Principality in the Pyrenees, between France and Spain, with a unique heritage of peaceful coexistence for over 700 years, and a unique cultural identity with ancient and medieval roots. Tourism accounts for 80% of the economy, but consists principally of skiers. The Andorran Ministry of Culture wishes to preserve Andorra's unique heritage and to broaden the country's appeal to cultural tourists. The Government has called for an international architecture competition to build the National Museum. Only Pritzker Architecture Prize winners have been allowed to submit references. The candidates selected are: Zaha Hadid, Frank Ghery, Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel and Dominique Perrault.

Lordcultura, our Spanish company, was initially commissioned by the Ministry to develop a concept plan and building program for the international competition for the new National Museum. The Minister of Culture was so pleased with the initial report on that project that he further requested that we expand the scope of our work to recommend a Cultural Infrastructure Strategy, again with facility programs for the components recommended.
