Project Experience

New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs

2018

The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (NMDCA) operates a network of cultural agencies as well as 8 museums and cultural centers across New Mexico. Like museums around the world, NMDCA’s museums seek to facilitate access by visitors and users to their collections, stories and content. Improving our understanding of the ways in which digital technologies can help increase relevancy and expand access is very much a focus of contemporary museum practice, and it is therefore timely that NMDCA is now seeking to conduct a planning process focused on a high-level digital visitor experience assessment and digital strategy development for its constituent museums.

Lord Cultural Resources was engaged to conduct a forward-thinking planning process focused on evaluating the current visitor experience and develop a high-level digital visitor experience strategy for 8 constituent museums.  Our team assessed the strengths and weaknesses of each museum’ s visitor experience, identified digital needs, ambitions and visitor expectations, and explored potential digital opportunities and challenges for the future. We toured 6 of the museums and interviewed 60 people to gain an internal and external perspective.
