On this momentous day…Sout al Horreya

On October 1st, 2010 I caught a plane from Toronto to Cairo as part of the consulting team working on the Grand Egyptian Museum project. I had no idea what the days would bring, but nothing could have prepared me for the events that would unfold that led up to the changes that the world has and continues to witness.

I left Cairo on Wednesday February 2nd, 2011 with mind buzzing and heart full. How could one not be moved by everything that was happening?

Today I spoke with a friend of mine while he was walking around Tahrir Square and he let me listen through his phone to the sounds of cheering in the streets. It was incredible because amid all the static of the long distance call, I could make out the joy in the voices…and then there was suddenly music in the street…really amazing. He also forwarded me this song/video from Egypt which I want to share with you all. The song is called, ‘Sout Al Horreya’ which translates to, I believe, ‘The Sound of Freedom’…it’s really beautiful and I hope you enjoy it on this fine Friday afternoon wherever you are.
