Philadelphia Museum of Art

1995-96

In response to budget cuts by the City of Philadelphia, the Pew Charitable Trusts and the William Penn Foundation retained Lord Cultural Resources to help the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the City assess the capability of the Museum to absorb the reduction by increasing revenues – while maintaining service to the public and preservation of the collections.

A team of seven Lord Cultural Resources’ consultants worked with staff, Trustees and volunteers to review the Museum’s practices and develop strategies to increase earned income. Our review included analysis of the real costs of collecting, by which we mean the investment museums make for the preservation and management of collections for future generations. As a direct result of our recommendations, the Museum received a $4.3 million funding package from the City.
