“The Arts and Culture Collective of Grand Rapids (ACCGR) has a mission to come up with a strategy to bolster the Grand Rapids area's art community.

‘We want to provide a living wage,'  said ACCGR co-chair Maggie Lancaster. 'We want to provide an opportunity for work and to allow them to stay and live here in Kent County.’ 

They partnered with Lord Cultural Resources and hosted an open house meeting Monday night in Lowell, to find out what artists and the community want to see.” 

Lord Cultural Resources is helping ACCGR develop an Arts and Culture Strategy for the region, which involves listening to diverse stakeholders and researching comparable communities with an aim to: leverage the network of cultural attractions, venues, leaders, and creatives in Grand Rapids and Kent County as community assets and integrate arts and culture into the region's economic development strategy.

Hinchliffe Stadium—one of the last surviving Negro League ballparks in North America and former home to the New York Black Yankees, the New York Cubans, and Hall of Famer Larry Doby—has been revived through a visionary redevelopment led by RPM Development and Baye Adofo-Wilson with the City of Paterson.

This Black History Month, we’re amplifying ways Black cultural organizations are answering this moment through their everyday work. They help us grapple with big concepts, from what can we learn from the past to inform the present and future, to what happens when Black history becomes publicly contested and the plaques are removed.

“Stroll along the streets of Yellowknife and into the historic Old Town and you will see vibrant, uniquely northern public art: colourful murals on garage doors; paintings splashed on dumpsters and the sides of stores; art etched on rock; and sculptures hanging off the front of houses. You will not see any visual art, however, in a dedicated public art gallery, because the capital of the Northwest Territories doesn’t have one.
